Top Tip for Finding the Right Foundation Color

Some women are plagued by insecurity about their foundation color. Does it blend well? Does it match their skin tone? Can others see their foundation line?

Here is a general tip to help you know if you have the right undertone in your foundation color.

1. Do you tan easily? If you don't burn and are able to tan easily, then your foundation most likely has a lot of yellow undertone.

2. Do you burn, then tan easily? Then your foundation has a basic yellow undertone.

3. Do you burn, and only get a little tan? Then your foundation has a pink undertone.

4. Do you burn, and don't tan at all? Then your foundation has a lot of pink undertone.

Not only do foundations come in different shades (Ivory, Beige, Bronze, etc.), they also have varying levels of yellow or pink undertones in them. Understanding which undertone you have will help you find the perfect shade of foundation.

Your skin will glow and look fabulous if you have hte right foundation shade to help even out your skin tone. Remember, foundation looks best when you use a skin care program.

The #1 Tip To Apply Your Foundation Perfectly

Have you ever wondered why some people's makeup looks absolutely flawless? The secret lies in their foundation. A good foundation that evens out your skin tone can take years off your face faster than most wrinkle creams on the market.

However, there is more to having a good foundation than just picking out the right shade. You see, if your skin looks bad, has blemishes, dryness, or oiliness, no foundation is going to correct that. Here is my #1 tip for making your foundation perfect. And it is this: you must use a good skin care routine so your foundation applies effortlessly and evenly.

What does a good skin care routine look like? Look for a skin care program that includes these essential elements in them. You may need to add other supplemental skin care products depending upon your skin's needs.

1. Cleanse your face with a cleanser for your skin type. Do not use regular soap - most are deodorant types and will irritate your face or dry it out too much. You can even use a 3-in-1 cleanser to save time from doing steps 2 & 3 below.

2. Exfoliate: again, use one for your skin type. An exfoliator helps get rid of dry skin that tends to dull the surface and clog pores (should be done 2-3x's a week).

3. Freshen: This is usually an astringent that cleans and closes your pores.

4. Moisturize: Find one suitable for your skin type and, if you can, one that contains a minimum sunscreen of SPF 15. (A sunscreen higher than 30 is not necessarily more beneficial.) If your moisturizer doesn't contain sunscreen, apply sunscreen before your moisturizer.

5. Protect: Apply a foundation in the form of a liquid, powder, or a cream to powder. Not only does it help even out your complexion, but acts as a barrier to lock in the moisture and keep environmental pollutants out.

You'll notice the following benefits as you apply foundation to your freshly cleaned and moisturized face: the foundation goes on more smoothly, blends better, doesn't accentuate all your imperfections, doesn't settle and define your wrinkles, and truly evens out your skin tone.

Never go to bed with any makeup on - be sure to do steps 1-5 in the day and steps 1-4 before bed.
